THERE was a good attendance at Stover School for the South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis League finals and awards night.

The first event of the evening saw Kevin Nicholls retain his Veterans’ title as he defeated Terry Parkins 11-6, 11-3, 11-4.

Next up was the Division Two final, which Colin Butterworth took in the deciding fifth game against Mitch Bellham 11-3, 11-8, 10-12, 12-14, 11-6.

The Super Veterans (over 60) final was next up, Jim McIvor victorious in a tactical battle with Mick Mercer 5-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-7.

League Sponsor and top player Sonja Ryland picked up her eighth ladies’ singles title with a fine victory over Jackie Whitehorn 11-4, 11-7, 11-7

As Aarish Maharjan and Kevin Nicholls battled for the men’s singles title, the Burton Cup, there were some spectacular rallies. Defence won the day as Kevin Nicholls collected his third title of the evening 11-4, 11-5, 11-6.

In between the matches, the awards were handed out by Sonja and George. George himself was the recipient of the Amy Dyment Bowl whilst Issy Brown received the Alan Parker Cup.

Many thanks go to Torbay Leisure Centre and Stover School for staging the events and to all involved in, playing, supporting, umpiring and organising the proceedings.
