THE Den Bowling Club in Teignmouth is now officially open for the 2025, outdoor season.
On Saturday, April 12 the Town Mayor, Cate Williams was on hand to kindly declare the Den Bowling club open and even bowled the first ‘wood’ along the lawn.
After playing some internal friendly matches which everyone enjoyed, they moved inside to enjoy a slap-up tea of a buffet and cakes, interspersed with brief speeches from the club’s president Stuart and club captain Pete, highlighting the rapid progress made by the club in the past year.
An enthusiastic committee together with other members had collaborated and redecorated the whole clubhouse internally, including newly designed honours boards for the walls. They have a licensed bar and catering facilities.
This season, the club has entered the Mid-Devon bowls league so will play competitive matches, in addition to all the usual friendlies against clubs from all over Devon and Dorset.
As usual, The Den will be hosting the Teignmouth tournament in September where they will welcome many International players.
The club continues to enjoy support and sponsorship from several local businesses and thanks, as always, go to them for their continuing support. They all recognize what a great game bowling is and how The Den continues to bring visitors to Teignmouth and is beneficial to the town.
It was great to see the mayor’s husband Peter join the club as a full member and look forward to him being part of our friendly club.
The club has also welcomed many new members this year already and will welcome everyone who wishes to join The Den for the open day on May 3, from 10am. Bowls can be provided and the current, friendly members will be on hand to offer support. Also, if any school groups wish to get involved, a junior section can be formed!
