IN late March sunshine, two Teignbridge Trotters made the journey east to Yeovil for the half marathon, put on by Race Nation Events.

Starting and finishing in the town centre, the course takes in a mixture of urban and country roads, passing through the picturesque village of Montecute and offering up a couple of significant inclines before a flat and downhill return to Yeovil.

Leading the charge for the Trotters was James Long in 24th place, running 1:21.24, followed soon after by Ewan Walton (after last week’s Feighan Fury) in 48th, grinding out 1:27.06.

Meanwhile, Winding Paths staged The Total Coastal, with a choice of distances.

Ruth Johnson reported from the Ultra, "The race started in glorious sunshine at 7.45am from Kingswear. The first 9 miles were pretty hard going due to the heat and the never-ending climbs on the coast path to Berry Head.”

As she continued, Ruth was blessed by spectacular views along the coast through Paignton and Torquay. A suspected bomb at Meadfoot Beach made for a slight route change and some added intrigue.

From Babbacombe to Shaldon was particularly gruelling, with endless steps up and down to various beaches.

There were 116 finishers, Ruth coming 85th in 8.38.13 whilst Kris Ward placed 8th in 6.09.34.

In the half marathon, starting in Paignton, several Trotters were in action. The results were: Kate Heaton 29th in 2.46.29, Olivia Miles 30th in 2.48.39, Jayden Taylor 40th in 3.01.42, Allen Taylor 41st in 3.01.46, Robert Faulker 46th in 3.08.37 and Callum Price 55th in 3.13.31.

Laura Holland was third overall and 2nd female and Guy Jary first overall in the brutal 10k.

The first of the Run Exe 5k Series took place with four Trotters taking part. Out of 176 runners, Alex Sparks was fourth in 16.08, Donald Brooks 10th in 16.25, Steve Weeks 81st in 19.38 and Chloe Weeks 84th in 19.38.
