MID-Devon Cycling Club has enjoyed a stellar start to the racing season, with youth and veteran riders alike achieving impressive results across a variety of disciplines.
Four young riders travelled to Gravesend for the VC Londres annual stage race with Lauren Fox dominating the under-14 girls’ category, notably outpacing all U16 competitors in three of the four stages.
In the under-16 category, Matt Holmes secured an 11th-place finish in stage 4, while Bayley Woodger achieved 11th place in stage 1 and 8th in stage 3. The overall general classification saw Bayley finish 20th, Matt 22nd, and Meryn Kitching 24th.
Elsewhere, U8 rider Jenson Scott claimed a commendable 2nd place, while his sister Darcie secured 3rd in the U10 girls’ category at the South West MTB round two. James Allen continued his off-road winning streak in the juvenile group, and Andy Taylor finished a strong 6th in the Masters category.
Dexter Townsend made a remarkable return to racing at the CiCLE Classic, the first round of the national Junior series. Following a crash at the end of the 2024 season, this race marked his comeback and he delivered an outstanding 9th-place finish.
MDCCs were then well-represented at Sportiva Events’ Exeter gravel race. Robin Delve triumphed in the Super Vet category, James Williams secured victory in the Open Vet category, and Calair Capper achieved a well-deserved 3rd place in the Female Vet category.
Adding to the club's impressive early season results, Mid Devon also hosted the Primavera Pursuit Road Race at Hatherleigh. Three of their riders secured top 10 positions: young Edward Fraile-Whysall finished 5th and also claimed the first Junior Prize, Robert Hodge placed 8th, and Shaun Davey finished 10th. Lara Dix won the women's race.
Mid Devon Cycling Club’s early season success highlights the dedication and talent of its riders across multiple disciplines, setting a promising tone for the remainder of the racing calendar.
