NEW Cross remain on station behind leaders Crediton Quins in Devon Two North East after beating Exeter Athletic 22-3.
Crediton, five points clear at the top and with a game in hand, continue as favourites for the solitary promotion spot out of the division.
But it is not all over yet as the promotion rivals still have to play each other one more time, which is a chance for New Cross to nibble away at the deficit.
A try hat-trick by Nick Halse, and a fourth for Ryan Wotton, sealed a dogged victory for New Cross.
“It was a tough afternoon as Athletic made us work hard for the win,” said team manager Tim Marshall.
Luke Williams scored a try hat-trick for the Ramblers 2nd XV, who defeated Topsham 4th XV 36-26. Clinton Mill was also among the try scorers.
“All in all, a fantastic weekend for the club,” said Marshall.
