TEIGNMOUTH RFC salvaged a four-try bonus point from their 66-22 drubbing at Wadebridge, which was just enough to keep them out of the relegation spots in South West Two.

The Teigns have two games left to stay ahead of bottom two Truro and Newton Abbot, both of whom are just a point behind.

Teignmouth’s try scorers on Molesworth Field were skipper Pete Parsons (pictured), Jack Bowen, Jordan Hellier (courtesy of a fine offload from Alex Ford), and Ford himself. Jack Mayne knocked over a conversion.

Colin Stewart, the Teignmouth coach, praised the commitment of his side in a tough environment,

“The players dug deep, and gave a proud performance in parts,” said Stewart.

“There was some outstanding, gritty stuff from Mark Brookfield and Tom Cope in the front row – and I thought Jordan Hellier had a great game.

“Pete Parsons was outstanding and my man-of-the-match.”

At the other end of this division, Okehampton guaranteed a top-five finish after defeating Winscombe 29-10 on the Showfield.

The sixth-places side from Somerset could have gone past Okey into fifth spot had they won the match.

Victory propelled Okey 17 points ahead of Winscombe with just 10 to play for – and they could finish as high as third if they win their last two games.

Dry conditions encouraged both sides to play rugby with Winscombe dominating possession, but not the scoreboard as Okey led 12-5 at the break.

“Winscombe looked to play from deep, but our defence was great,” said Tom McGrattan, Okey’s player-coach.

“And when we got our chances, we took most of them.”

The Horn brothers – Brandon and Leon – scored a try each in the first half. Luke Simmons kicked one conversion. Leon went on to notch a hat-trick with substitute Morgan Woods crossing too.
