BOVEY Tracey AFC and Newton Abbot Spurs both secured league victories on Saturday, March 8.
The Walter C Parson SW Peninsula League pair overcame Middlezoy Rovers and Okehampton Argyle respectively.
Jack Brimming bagged a brace for Bovey with Callum Leech joining him on the scoresheet in the 3-1 success over Middlezoy. This was a ninth win of the season for the club and they jump above Torridgeside AFC and into ninth as a result.
Spurs meanwhile are locked in a fascinating title race and they themselves move up the table after their latest win. Toby Pullman struck a hat-trick at Simmons Park with Tyler Joint adding a single in this 4-0 success over an Argyle side in free-fall.
Bridport FC may have won as well but Spurs now have a better goal difference by two and have reclaimed third spot with the duo both on 47 points. Bridport beat fifth-placed Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police 3-1 away from home which gives them and Spurs a bit of breathing space there, whilst the top two in the division squared off.
Remarkably, leaders Sidmouth Town fired six unanswered goals past second-placed Cullompton Rangers to extend their advantage at the summit and likely knock Cully out of title contention as well. Spurs, with their four games in hand on Sidmouth, are the biggest threat.
On the Friday night, Teignmouth AFC headed to Crediton United and returned to South Devon empty-handed, losing 2-0.
Elsewhere in the Peninsula League, Honiton Town won 2-1 at Axminster Town and Bishops Lydeard were beaten 5-0 by Elburton Villa on home soil.
The Mid-Devon trio then all had midweek games including Bovey vs Teignmouth and now the latter play again on the weekend, as do Spurs.
Spurs welcome Elburton to The Rec whereas Teignmouth can do their local rivals a favour when they face Bridport at Cullompton’s Speeds Meadow.
