Petroc Division 2
Plymouth Lions Women's 4th XI. 0
Ashmoor Women's 1st XI. 6
ASHMOOR ladies travelled to Plymouth Lions at the weekend, eager to continue their winning streak at the top of the table.
Plymouth started the game strongly, making a number of runs through Ashmoor’s defence. However, keeper Ella Reade made some important saves to keep the game at 0-0.
The visitors began to improve and took the league courtesy of a powerful Jay Bourne strike from the top of the shooting circle.
Ashmoor continued applying pressure and after winning the ball, midfielder Emily Hunter scored a flicked goal which went in off of the post to make it 2-0. To finish the first half, Ashmoor midfielder Sophie Walker struck the ball from the edge of the circle to make it 3-0 at half-time.
Ashmoor’s dominance continued in the second half with the team transferring the ball around the pitch in excellent fashion to create space. They bagged a fourth goal with Bourne scoring again, this time from a penalty corner. Walker further added to her goal tally for the season to make the score 5-0.
To finish off the game, captain Jordan Wright scored a deflection at the back post to seal the game and make the score 6-0. The win secures promotion for the ladies team this season, as well as extending their lead at the top of the table and continuing their unbeaten run!
Ashmoor player of the match was youngster Mary Moore, who performed excellently on her senior competitive debut for the club. This weekend Ashmoor face Dart in the local Totnes derby.
