MID Devon Cycling Club celebrates a successful weekend of coaching and national competition.

Mid Devon Cycling Club experienced a landmark weekend, marked by a successful coaching session and historic participation in the National Omnium Series.

On Saturday, the club hosted the first round of the Southwest Clusters coaching session for the British Cycling pathway at Torbay Velopark. 23 riders from across the Southwest region participated in a comprehensive two-hour training session, demonstrating the club’s commitment to developing cycling talent.

Simultaneously, three Mid Devon riders made club history by competing in the prestigious National Omnium Series at Derby. This marked the first time the club has had three riders participate in this national event at the same time.

Lauren Fox (Under 14 Girls) delivered an outstanding performance, finishing 7th overall. She secured individual wins in two of the five events, showcasing her exceptional skill and speed.

Matt Holmes displayed remarkable grit and determination, particularly in the individual pursuit, his first event. He finished 27th overall. Bayley Woodger had a day of mixed results, with his best performance coming in the elimination race, where he placed 9th. He achieved his primary goal of qualifying for the final race, which features only the top 24 riders.

"This weekend was a testament to the dedication and talent of our riders and the hard work of our coaching team," said Rob Woodger Vice Chair for the club. "To have three riders competing at the national level is a significant achievement, and we are incredibly proud of their performances. We are also very happy to host the regional coaching session."

Outstanding performances at the recent Westpoint races, hosted by Exeter University. The Southwest event proved to be a significant stepping stone for the club’s youth academy riders, now transitioning into junior and senior racing.

Eave Fox, in her first-ever adult road race, secured an impressive 4th place, while Lara Dix finished 7th in her second road race outing.

Dean Hodges took a decisive victory in the 4th Cat race, with Caio Waters finishing 8th in the 3/4 race.

Young riders Henry Cadwallader and Edward Fraile-Whysall showcased their talent, taking 1st and 2nd place respectively. Cadwallader broke away from the bunch with a lap to go for the win, while Fraile-Whysall won the bunch sprint for second.

In the E/1/2/3 race, Shaun Davey finished with the second group. Edward Fraile-Whysall and Henry Cadwallader, racing their second event of the day, along with James Williams, finished within the main bunch.

The club looks forward to continuing to support its riders as they progress in their cycling careers. Currently, 10 ex-youth riders are racing with teams in the UK and Europe, showcasing the club's rich history of developing riders. This success is made possible, in part, by the club's stellar event, the Dartmoor Classic.
