TEIGNMOUTH Golf Club, in their Centenary Year, held their Seniors Club Championship on 10 and 11 June.
On both days, the players contended with a strong breeze in dry and bouncy conditions which made club selection all the more important.
55 competitors set off on day one and the best Gross Score came from Colin Papworth (1 handicap) who shot an impressive 75. Closely following Colin were Mark Fleming and new Mark Ivy, both of whom scored 77.
The best Nett Score was a splendid 67 from the aforementioned Mark Fleming, whilst Charlie Yates and Ivy closed out the podium with 69 and 71 respectively.
On day two, Colin Papworth produced another very good round which again included 3 Birdies for a 74 and a total of 149 to win the Championship and the Tony McHale Trophy.
It has been quite a year for the Papworth family as son, Tom, won the Teignmouth Club Championship last July.
A total of 154 earned board member Nick James the runner-up spot and then the evergreen Richard Wilson pipped defending champion Mark Haskell to third place on countback.
The winner of the Nett Competition for the Alan Osborne Trophy was Mark Fleming (142), ahead of Richard Wilson (145) and Martin Yeo (145).
A special mention goes to Ian Snell, believed to be the oldest participant, who finished a gallant fifth on countback in the Nett competition, scoring 72 and 74 for a very respectable 146 total.
