DAINTON Park Golf Club held their coveted Club Championships across the weekend.
Players teed up for 18 holes on both the Saturday and the Sunday and there is no doubt which day provided the better conditions.
The majority of players got wet at some point on the first day, and yet it was the first round that provided the better Gross scores.
Julie Pirongs (15) carded an 84 which was matched but not bettered the following day, whilst Nathan Brown’s 71 (-2) was only beaten by one of Saturday’s Nett scores amongst the men, let alone any Gross scores.
Nathan come out on top across the two rounds to hoist another Club Championship, following up that 71 with a 75 for a total of 146.
Four shots further back was Samuel E Knight (4) who went around in a very tidy 73 on the Sunday.
Stuart Dickinson (4) completed the podium at another four more shots, putting together a 78 and a 76 to finish 12+ over par.
Callum Gugacz (+14), Daryl Page-Dove (+15) and Kristian Podilchuk (+15) weren’t far behind either, all playing off of a handicap of 5.
The aforementioned Julie Pirongs wasn’t quite as prolific on Sunday with a score of 94, allowing Charlotte Husband to steal through and claim top spot in the women’s Gross competition.
Scores of 86 and 84 (170 total) were enough for her to win by a single shot ahead of Julie Winsor, and the runner-up’s namesake, first-round leader Pirongs, took third spot.
Sally Clemens was a further shot behind third on a 179 total whilst Jo Fisher (182), Susan Carnell (183), Tracy Crooks (184) and Victoria Cave (185) followed along.
On the Nett side of things, only one player across both the men and the women played under their handicap for the cumulative rounds.
The man in question is Andy Mykhalevych, who carded a strong 65 on Sunday to close the gap and get his hands on the Nett title.
Andy, playing off of 17, was -1 for the competition and won by a single shot, as both Samuel E Knight (4) and Pete Symes (8) scored a 73 and a 69 to finish level par.
Aaron Paget was the only man to finish +1 whilst the trio of John Vaughan, Andrew Medhurst and Chris George were all +2.
Softening the blow of losing by a single shot in the Gross competition was Nett success for Julie Winsor. Rounds of 73 and 72 saw her win by three shots.
Her closest rival was Julie Pirongs on +6, with Lisa Hurley at +7, Charlotte Husband at +8 and Sally Clements, Victoria Cave and Susan Carnell all at +9.
Saturday provided a major test with the weather so congratulations go to every single player that took part.
