NEWTON Abbot Spurs’ reserves have guaranteed promotion with a win over Ivybridge Town last night, Thursday 23.
Joe Bushin and Callum Noyce scored the goals for the home side at The Rec, leapfrogging Ivy as well as Totnes and Dartington as a result.
The opener came from Spurs breaking down the left- Noyce whipped in a perfect cross and there was Bushin to get the decisive touch.
It continued to ebb and flow between the two high-flying sides but it was nothing more than half chances for the rest of the first 45.
Coming back from the half-time break, Spurs went flying out of the blocks, but they were still nervy with that single-goal lead.
Callum Noyce stepped up once again, switching from creator to finisher and making it 2-0. A ball over the top unsettled the Ivy goalkeeper and Noyce lifted it over him with maximum composure.
Spurs were then able to control the ball and the game in general, holding on to a huge three points. As T&D and Ivybridge have now completed their respective campaigns, second place is a guarantee with the Newton Abbot-based side now targeting the league title.
A trip to Babbacombe Corries beckons on Saturday 25 before they can complete their season at home against Harbertonford next week, with league leaders Paignton Saints firmly in their sights.
The good news carries on throughout the club as well with this promotion for the 2nd team meaning the 3rds are able to be promoted too, making the jump up from Division 2 to Division 1.
