NEWTON Abbot Spurs earned a 12th league victory of the campaign on Saturday, January 18 courtesy of Toby Pullman’s clinical edge.

The forward scored all four goals as Spurs won 4-1 at home against Honiton Town in the South West Peninsula League Premier East.

Pullman hasn’t been back in the fold for that long at all following injury struggles so manager Marc Revell will be delighted to see him back amongst the goals in such a prolific way.

Elsewhere in the division, Bovey Tracey AFC picked up a monumental three points on their travels, taking the huge scalp of high-flyers Cullompton Rangers.

Neil Last, as reliable as ever, scored the only goal of the game at Speeds Meadow, stepping up to convert a penalty just before half-time. Tom Burt’s cross from the left picked out Jack Brimming who was then cleared out from behind, leaving the referee with an easy decision to make.

This is a sixth win of the season for a Bovey side who move up to 10th, ahead of the aforementioned Honiton. They certainly seem to be heading in the right direction under the stewardship of Matt Hayden, not to mention that they did Sidmouth Town a big favour in the title race.

Teignmouth AFC, the final of the Mid-Devon trio, hosted Elburton Villa at Coombe Lane and were defeated 3-0. Villa are another team with lofty ambitions in the SWPL Premier East and so this result is by no means a disaster for the Teigns.

They may now be five points behind local rivals Bovey but with four games in hand, they will fancy their chances of making up the deficit in the coming months.

In the other games on Saturday, Crediton United beat Middlezoy Rovers 3-1, Sidmouth Town overcame Torrington 4-1 and Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police fell 2-1 at home to Bishops Lydeard, plus rock bottom Axminster Town were defeated 3-0 by Torridgeside AFC.

Spurs will be in action at The Rec once again on the 25th when Axminster visit whilst Teignmouth host Honiton and Bovey travel to a troubled Okehampton Argyle outfit.
