SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE
Newton Abbot Spurs 1 Bridport FC 3
TWO late goals from Bridport FC sunk Newton Abbot Spurs to a first defeat of the campaign.
Celebrations were aplenty for the away team when both strikes hit the back of the net at The Rec, Kieran Coombes and George Calverley earning them a second win of the season.
It was Bridport who opened the scoring before Callum Noyce struck back for Spurs.
Tyler Joint switched from left to right-back following an injury to Callum Fyfe and this proved to be an inspired decision with the former playing a key role in the equaliser. Tom Lobb ran onto Joint’s ball over the top, squared it to Noyce and the winger made no mistake in firing home.
1-1 was the score at the break although the home side went in with a man in the sin bin- Tate Breslan-Aggrey talked himself into the referee’s book and then re-entered the fray in the early stages of the second 45.
There weren’t many chances for large parts of this fixture despite there being four goals, with a lot of the play taking place in the middle third.
When The Bees did retake the lead it was aided by a Spurs mishap. Centre-back Finn Pearse misplaced a place and gave the ball away with a Bridport man pouncing and providing the finish through the legs of goalkeeper Owen Vosper.
The game was then put to bed in the dying embers, condemning Marc Revell’s side to a maiden defeat, having won five and drawn one of the previous six outings.
Spurs remained in fourth place all the same whilst Bridport are in seventh, on eight points from eight games.
