MARTIN Baker of Bovey Tracey collected three silver medals at last year’s British Transplant Games.

Back then he spoke of the importance of the games “Not only for my mental health and my physical wellbeing but it shows to people that when you’ve had a transplant you don’t just have to sit in bubble wrap and do nothing.”

Martin is now in Italy, ready to go for the first-ever Transplant World Cup.

He is one of 14 players in the English football squad with five group fixtures having taken place between Monday, September 9 and Wednesday 11.

Romania were the first opponents and England put them to the sword and then some, winning 14-0. Clashes with France, USA, Wales and Ireland followed for Martin and co.

A 3-1 victory over France in the second game meant that England were top of group A at the end of day one.
