MID Devon Cycling Club youth academy riders travelled to Newport this weekend for the second round of the Icebreaker Series.

This series follows an omnium-style format, which includes a scratch race, an elimination race, and a points race. The combined results determine the overall winner.

Lauren Fox was the first to compete in the scratch race. Although it wasn't her best performance, it was only her second omnium on the track, and she finished in 8th place.

However, Lauren found her rhythm in the elimination race, securing 1st place. With this newfound confidence heading into the points race, she had everything to play for. During the race, she collected points in the intermediate sprints, keeping her in contention overall.

Ultimately, she took the win, earning double points along the way, which helped her secure 2nd place and establish herself as a strong contender in the under-14 category.

Matt Holmes and Bayley Woodger are still finding their feet on the track, but they have shown good results in the last couple of weeks and were looking to improve from round one.

The scratch race was divided into two heats followed by a final. Matt finished 10th in heat one, just qualifying for the final, while Bayley finished 7th in heat two.

In the final, Matt placed 17th and Bayley placed 20th. The elimination race was also split into two heats, with Matt and Bayley in separate heats. Matt had a great ride, finishing in 6th, while Bayley came in 9th.

Moving on to the points race, which consisted of two heats with both riders in separate races, Matt finished 11th and Bayley finished 12th. Overall, it was another good day of racing for both riders.
