ASHBURTON won for the first time in five starts when they defeated South Devon by six wickets in the C Division West.

A win was long overdue for the Ashes, who last enjoyed one ON June 29 when they defeated Plymouth by four wickets.

As South Devon had lost the three previous meetings with bogey side Ashburton, a return to form was always on the cards for Lloyd White’s crew.

South Devon were limited to 186 for eight on their Marsh Road ground with Kalen Warne (40), Richard Beaumont (31) and Jack Allen (28) hauling them arou from 78 for five. Steve Edmonds claimed three for 31 for Ashburton.

Ashburton were 98 for three in reply with runs booked by George Yabsley (23), Ashley Berry (29) and White.

Matt Churchill (36no) joined White at that point and their 80-run stand put the game beyond South Devon.

Ashburton can look forward to a stress-free last leg of the season in the upper reaches of the mid-table.

South Devon have three games left to ensure they stay ahead of second-bottom Yelverton, who trail them by 15 points with 60 to play for.
