CORNWOOD revived their promotion hopes with a 111-run win over Ashburton.
Sam Griffiths hit the top score of 68 for Cornwood in their total of 215 for seven.
Opener Max Finzel (37) and Griffiths put on 45 for the third wicket, only for the innings to tall briefly on 88 for four.
Griffiths kept going –he as sixth out on 160 – and there was a top-up stand of 62 unbroken at the end between youngster Stan Baker (41) and Harry Woolway (22).
Alex Hayman (2-27) was the lone Ashburton bowler with more than one wicket to his name.
Ashburton only got as far as 104 before they ran out of batters. They were always under the cosh after sliding to four for nine in the first eight overs. Baker (2-5) and Dan Skeemer (2-15) were the bowlers who did the damage.
Toby Pascoe (35) gave the running total an air of respectability, but wickets continued to fall at the other end.
Jacob Caunter (3-23) and Jason Hall (2-12) flushed out the loiterers as Ashburton folded.
After this emphatic victory for Cornwood, they remain third on a very strong total of 201 points.
Ahead of them are Ivybridge 1st XI and Paignton 2nd XI on 225 and 222 points respectively, whilst the closest challengers to their podium placing are Kingsbridge 1st XI on 159 points.
Ashburton meanwhile are in fifth on 150 points and so have the aforementioned Kingsbridge in their sights for the remainder of the campaign.
