IPPLEPEN 2nd XI paid Hatherleigh’s 2nd XI a visit and they gave them a 146-run drubbing in D Division West.
Noah Sutton (58no) and Hugo Denman (55) both scored half-centuries for Ipplepen as they reached 249 for seven. Steve Bowden (33) and Warrick Green (30) chipped in.
Hatherleigh were all out for 103 having been blown away by Chris Needham (5-20) with the new ball.
Freddie Harvey (2-22) and Harry Lewis (3-19) mopped up the rest.
In the same league, Plymstock 2nd XI marched on at the top of the D West table thanks to a 15-run win away from home over Abbotskerswell 2nd XI.
It was a fifth successive win for the table toppers – and their second close shave in a row. Last time out they scraped past Hatherleigh with their last pair of batters in the middle.
Mike Blackmore – in at 36 for two, out at 154 for seven – played the anchorman role for Plymstock with 65 in a total of 202 all out.
Tom Baker was next best with 22. Abbots topped up the tally by giving away 45 extras – all but one of them wide.
Chris Clough (3-32) was the only Abbots’ bowler to take more than two wickets. The best of the rest was Aron Owen (2-38).
Abbots had to rebuild after dipping to 14 for two. Kyle Rich (37) and Tom Heath (34) put on 75 to start the fightback.
A mini-slump to 104 for five meant rebuilding again, which George Kershaw (45) had a go at with the tail.
Kershaw was ninth out on 186 in the 45th over with 17 still needed to win it and just two balls left.
Lastly, Ashburton bowler Chris Yeo had six of the best in a 118-run spanking administered to near neighbours South Devon.
South Devon, chasing 255 to win, were well placed at 90 for two thanks to Danny Duke (30) and Mali Marshall (32) getting them there.
South Devon’s problems started when Yeo dismissed Jonny Martin for 13 and deteriorated further as Toby Goodman then Duke fell in quick succession.
Joe Kitto (27) was the only one of the remaining batters to make much headway as South Devon veered from 90 for two to 96 for five then 115 for eight on the way to 136.
Yeo (6-16) was backed up in the wicket-taking business by Ryan May with three for 39.
Ashburton’s total of 254 for seven was constructed around an opening stand of 146 between Steve Edmonds (78) and George Yabsley (57).
Ash Berry (38) and Matt Churchill (26) added 56 for the fifth wicket.
Duke (3-36) was South Devon’s most successful bowler.
