THERE was disappointment for the ladies at Bovey Tracey Bowls Club in the quarter-final of the Grace Matthews competition against Victoria Park, Bideford.

Playing at the neutral venue of Okehampton, Bovey won just the rinks match but lost both singles, the pairs and the triples. In her singles match Heidi Call, was lying game but her opponent took the jack into the ditch with her final wood of the end, tying the score 20-all, then took the next end to win 21-20 in a closely fought match of high-class bowling by both players.

The men were involved in two Mid-Devon League matches during the week. In a home fixture against Totnes, Bovey won two of the four rinks with the other tied.

K Lockett, N Fletcher, R Bailey & D Saunders 16-16; P Cridge, A Franklin, D Johnson & E Ridgewell 20-32; A Walding, A Tremlett, C Shoreland & P Joy 32-15; D Anderson, S Callard, K Breame & M Webber 30-10. As a result, Bovey took 11 league points to Totnes' 3.

They then took the trip south to Kingsbridge Park where the rinks were shared two apiece but, with Kingsbridge winning the overall score, the league points worked out 10-4 in their favour.

In the men's Over 55s X Division, Bovey hosted Kingsteignton and won on both rinks to take all the league points by 8-0.

Elsewhere, in a ladies' triples friendly at Teignmouth Den, the home team won both games, taking the match by 32 shots to 21.

A mixed friendly away at Abbrook Park resulted in a win for Bovey by three rinks to one and 67 shots to 63.

Finally, in the various club competitions, the latest results were as follows. In the men's 2-wood singles, Phil Joy won 15-8 against Andy Walding.

In the men's pairs, Phil Joy & Andy Walding beat Roger Bailey & Chris Shorland by 26 shots to 16 and Keith Lockett & Kenny Breame won 20-3 (conceded) against Steve Callard & Kevin Addey. Finally, in the Ley Cup, Mark Webber won by two sets to nil against Sarah Breame.
