FINALS weekend was played in unsettled weather at Newton Abbot Bowls Club, but the triples final was the only one that wasn’t completed.
Catherine Pickett won the ladies’ Championship Singles, beating Isobel Burley in the final, whilst Shaun Grice edged out Will Stevens to win the men’s equivalent.
The first of five finals for Trevor Voisey was the Club Pairs and he won alongside Steve Lockwood, beating Chris Hallwood and Steve Doyle.
Trevor lost to Nigel Godwin in the final of the men’s 2-Wood Singles but overcame Bob Gilpin to win the Senior Singles.
Linda Dedman meanwhile won the ladies’ 2-Wood Singles, the runner-up being Julia Barnes.
Jane Otieno & Julia Barnes and Dave Sanders & Shaun Lynch won the Pairs for the ladies and men, beating Margaret Fry & Isobel Burley and Simon Boyce & Steve Tipping respectively.
The Daphne Mann Singles was won by Jane Hallwood, with Margret Fry coming second, and Trevor was runner-up in his fourth final to Nigel Godwin in the men’s Handicap Singles.
Finally for Trevor was an Open Singles victory over Alan Mann whilst George Garth came second to Steve Doyle in the President’s Singles.
Three wins and two defeats for Trevor on a very busy day isn’t a bad return at all so congratulations to him for some great play this year.
There was a fair turnout of support over the weekend considering the unsettled weather and they were treated to a few very close finals. Well done to all of the winners and runners-up and for those that didn't win anything, there's always next season!
One Newton Abbot member, Shaun Lynch, won the MDL Singles’ Championship played at Babbacombe so congratulations go to him.
Recent tourists from Carshalton and Gloucester visited the club and there are a number of more teams still to come.
Some NA Members have one or two Devon County/ Presidents Games left to play and also Devon Patrons before that sad closing day for the season on September 21, it gets said every year but how quickly the season has gone.
The green has held up very well thanks to the team who tend it over the season but crows and seagulls continue to be a nuisance around Devon and Cornwall. Rubber snakes keep the crows at bay but seagulls are still happy to swallow them which is quite the annoyance.
Lastly, a few of the members are involved in the Teign Tournament so good luck to those taking part.
