ON the weekend of May 11 and 12, an England Bowls competition took place at the under-18 level.
In this single's event, 64 young players showcased their talents, competing for top honours. Oxford City and County BC was the location and featured were a thrilling mix of group stage battles and tense knockout matches.
Andrew Moore had a superb weekend of bowling for Marina Bowling Cup but was ultimately edged out by Phoebe Wade in the plate competition, losing 2-0.
Moore beat Sophie Wood 7-4 and 10-0 in round one, before then advancing beyond both Erin Burke and Leyton Sykes.
At this point, with the semi-finals beckoning, Andrew was yet to drop any points. Noah Pearce-Jones may have taken one off of him at the final four stage but scores of 7-6, 3-5 and 2-1 were enough for him to reach the final.
Wade won 8-3, 8-3 in the final and both of the last two standing deserve a lot of praise.
