DAWLISH youngster Olivia Steer enjoyed a superb 2024 on the track and she has already become a National Champion in 2025.
Held in Sheffield, at the National Sports Institute’s indoor athletics track, Olivia took on the National Indoor Age Group Championships, an event put on by England Athletics.
U15, U17 and U20 age groups were competing and in the U17 group, competing in only her second-ever indoor event, she came out on top in the 1500m to earn this prestigious title.
Her only other indoor experience came just before Christmas in Cardiff and at a distance of 3000m, Olivia achieved a gold medal there as well, plus the title of South West champion.
This is only part of her running success though as the Devon teen is also halfway through the cross-country season. Her training has been more focused towards the indoor events but she has had some good cross-country (xc) results all the same.
Olivia has already won the Westward League XC still with one race left to go, she won the Devon Champs XC, came 2nd in the SW Champs XC and had to pull out of the Devon Schools XC but followed that with 3rd in the SW Schools XC.
Coming up now next month are both the National cross-country and National schools’ cross-country competitions. She has been selected to run for Devon in both of these competitions and also, Olivia will be representing the SW at the London mini marathon in April.
Praise and congratulations were heaped upon Olivia on social media for this latest success, family and friends showing their support on her Facebook page which can be found “@oliviasteerruns.x”.
