PATTERNS in nature is the theme for this year’s EDGE Sculpture Trail at Heathercombe Gardens near Manaton.
The exhibition will be officially opened tomorrow by Bill Hitchins, past chairman of the Dartmoor National Park, at 11.30am. It will then be open to the public until July 7, every day except Mondays, from 11am to 5.30pm.
The EDGE Sculpture Trail represents work from all parts of the community, with professional artists showing work alongside pieces made by community groups.
A spokesman for the event said: ‘The theme for the main trail this year is patterns in nature.
‘We also have varied figurative work in three of the gardens and an exciting and diverse indoor gallery space.
‘For the opening weekend we have a range of creative family workshops and performances by MED Theatre.
‘The trail can be enjoyed by members of the public of all ages. Many parts of the gardens are accessible by wheelchair or scooter. Dogs on leads are welcome.’
The Heathercombe woodlands are managed and cared for by the Claude and Margaret Pike Woodlands Trust. The EDGE Sculpture Trail is run in partnership with the High Heathercombe Centre CIC. Proceeds of the event are shared with the National Gardens Scheme charities and Rowcroft Hospice.
Trustee John Pike said: ‘The trust is delighted to be hosting the Sculpture Trail again this year. The EDGE exhibition helps to fulfil part of the trustee’s vision to enable members of the public to enjoy Heathercombe’s beautiful tranquil environment and works of art which resonate with the woodland setting.’
Refreshments and cream teas are available at South Heathercombe tearooms.
