THE number of potholes in Devon has increased by at least 10,000 each year since 2022, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has shown.
There were 63,384 recorded potholes across Devon in 2024, up from 52,839 the year prior and 36,034 the year before that, the FOI shows.
In other words, since 2022, the number of potholes recorded by Devon County Council (DCC) has increased by at least 10,000 each year.
DCC does not record expenditure information relating specifically to potholes, rather expenditure on potholes is contained within total expenditure of what it calls ‘Highway Safety Defect’ repairs.
Last year, just shy of £8million was spent on repairs, with more than £5million having already been spent in 2024/25, another FOI shows.
