A GROUP of young people in Devon have met with representatives from the transportation sector to give their views on how travel could be made better in the county.

The Champions for Change, a group of children and young people with special educational needs, recently met with members of Devon County Council (DCC) transport services, professionals from Stagecoach and Devon Communities Together to continue to their work on improving transport in Devon.

The Champions shared an extensive list of what makes an enjoyable journey to school.

The aim is for this feedback to be used in developing training to ensure that these journeys are always enjoyable.

There was further discussion about finding ways to enable multiple wheelchair users to travel together.

The Champions shared their views on some of the things they like about travelling and things that can make travel difficult for them.

DCC’s Team Leader for Integrated Public Transport, Karen Rose, said: ‘The focus group is proving to be a collaborative process, and there is a real appetite for continuing to develop the group as more ideas emerge for making travel improvements’.
