A third teenager has died after a fatal crash near Exeter Racecourse earlier this month.
Ruby Campbell, age 15, was a passenger in the silver Peugeot 107, which left the road and hit a tree at around 1.20am on August 8.
She sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital in Bristol where she sadly died on Sunday, August 18.
Driver, 18-year-old Oliver Weston, and passenger, 16-year-old Hanna Green, died at the scene of the single car collision, which took place on an unclassified road that links the A38 with the A380.
Two other teenage passengers were also injured in the incident. A 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl both sustained injuries and were taken to hospital. The boy has since been discharged.
Chief inspector Si Jenkinson of the serious collisions investigations team said: ‘Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of all those involved in this truly tragic incident.’
‘We know this incident has saddened and shocked the local community, especially as it involved such young people,’ he added. ‘I wish to reassure the public that specialist officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the collision.’
Floral tributes have been left at the scene of the incident and family and friends have paid tribute to Oliver, known as Oli, Hanna and Ruby.
An inquest into Oli’s death was opened and adjourned last week. The hearing was told that the cause of his death has not yet been established.
Oli, who lived in Teignmouth, was described as ‘a lovely lad’ with ‘the kindest heart’ and ‘a gentle soul’. His funeral will take place at Exeter Crematorium on Saturday August 31. Oli was a keen biker, and he will be taken to the crematorium on a biker hearse with hundreds of local bikers expected to join the cortege.
Oli’s dad, Roly, has set up a crowdfunder on the JustGiving website to help fund his funeral and a memorial bench to go on Teignmouth seafront. Additional funds will be donated to the Devon Air Ambulance.
In a statement, Hanna’s family said: ‘Hanna Green of Kingsteignton, Devon, tragically died in a road traffic collision on Thursday August 8. Hanna was a beloved daughter, sister, and a great friend to many. The family are grateful for the comfort and support which they have received and experienced over the past few days and respectfully request that family and friends are allowed to grieve in private at this very difficult time.’
A message left on a tribute website refers to Hanna as: ‘A shining light on earth, a bright star in heaven.’
