An extensive search and rescue operation took place off Teignmouth last night (April 1st) following reports of a fully clothed man entering the water at Sprey Point, near Holcombe.
The alarm was raised at 6.41pm
A thorough search was conducted involving the police helicopter and two coastguard helicopters, land-based Coastguard Rescue Teams from Exmouth and Dawlish and police along with volunteers from Teignmouth Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI), who conducted a shoreline search of the area.
After an extensive search operation and further investigation, the operation was stood down at around 9pm and the sighting was attributed to surfers in the area.
