Local historian Viv Wilson MBE will be hosting her popular multimedia show reminiscing on Teignmouth’s well-known places and characters this Sunday (March 2).
In her brand-new show, ‘Teignmouth Reflected’, Viv will talk about a wide variety of subjects. The audience will be treated to previously unseen images, that Viv has sourced from private collections, as she shares fascinating stories about the Royal Hotel, Brook Hill School, prefabs, gas works, coastguards, the Bloomfield family and Cecil Gilpin – who she describes as a ‘man of many parts’.
Teignmouth’s links to the spy world will also be uncovered after Viv discovered a local connection with the Cambridge Five.
Viv will also pay tribute to two town councillors who passed away at the end of last year: Vince Fusco and Sylvia Russell.
Viv started her popular, and varied shows, at the old Carlton Theatre back in 1986. Her early presentations featured a basic projector, but she has embraced technological developments and now blends still images, movie clips, music and sound effects for an engaging walk down memory lane.
‘People are always keen to note changes in the streets, so I have put together a sequence of ‘Now and Then’ where a recent image is shown followed by the same spot many years earlier,’ Viv said. ‘This is of particular interest to newer residents,’ she added.
Viv likes to change the topics every few minutes throughout the programme to keep interest piqued.
Next year marks her 40th Anniversary of presenting the shows and 2026 will be Viv's final year as she intends to focus on entrenching ‘The Wilson Archive’ for posterity.
Teignmouth Reflected will take place at the Pavilions Teignmouth at 2:30pm on Sunday March 2.
The show will be repeated at 2:30pm on Saturday October 25.
