THERE is to be no riding of bicycles through several of Newton Abbot’s parks unless it is on designated routes as Teignbridge District Council (TDC) prepares to implement a new byelaw.

Made under Section 12 and Section 15 of the Open Spaces Act 1906, the proposal intends to make byelaws for Bakers Park, Courtney Park, Forde Park, Osbourne Park and Powderham Park.

‘No person shall without reasonable excuse ride a cycle in the ground except in any part of the ground where there is a right of way for cycles or on a designated route for cycling’ a notice attached a tree in Forde Park reads.

The pressed byelaws can be viewed online - teignbridge.gov.uk/cyclingbyelaw - or in person at Forde House.

The related documents are available to view until March 7.

March 7 is also the deadline for representations to be made.

Written representations about the byelaws, including objections, must be sent to [email protected]

A byelaw is a law made by a local authority.

It only applies within the local authority's boundaries.
