A KEY road in and out of Newton Abbot has today, July 22, closed for three weeks.

The closure of Wolborough Street is to allow Wales and West Utilities to replace the gas mains pipes.

The actual closure is from Linden Terrace to Pomeroy Road.

Wolborough Street will be under temporary traffic lights, two and three way, from August 12 until September 6, before the final phase of the works from September 9 to October 10 where the road will be under three-way temporary traffic lights.

The official diversion as put in place by Devon Highways is as follows: Wolborough Street, Totnes Road, Newton Road, Bridgetown Hill, South Devon Highway, Torquay Road and vice versa.

Motorists in the know, however, will no doubt be tempted to use alternate routes, chief among them being Coach Road, which can become heavily congested, if not totally impassable, at the best of times, regardless of any roadworks.
