The UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow heat warning, which will come into force from 5pm today (July 18) until 11pm on Saturday (July 20).
The Met Office expects temperatures in Newton Abbot to reach 26 degrees tomorrow. However, cooler and more unsettled weather is set to return by Sunday.
A yellow heat warning means weather conditions may pose a risk to those who are more vulnerable such as the elderly, people with underlying health conditions, people who are physically very active or likely to be working in manual labour and outside.
‘The higher temperatures can be a risk to certain, more vulnerable groups in our community. Older people and the very young can find it more difficult to regulate their own temperatures when the weather outside is hot,’ said Devon’s director of health Steve Brown. ‘In some cases, people can become unwell,’ he added.
