A NEWTON Abbot man has been charged following a serious assault in the early hours of Sunday, February 23.

Paul Toovey, aged 57, of Pomeroy Road, Newton Abbot, has been charged with two counts of Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

The charges relate to an incident which occurred near to The White Hart public house in East Street around 12.50am on Sunday, February 23.

A woman in her 40s and a man in his 50s sustained injuries and were taken to Torbay Hospital. None of the injuries were life-threatening.

Toovey appeared before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court today, February 24, and was remanded into custody.

He will next appear at Plymouth Crown Court on March 27.
