Teignmouth Players Amateur Dramatics Society is hunting for new talent as it prepares to launch its new season - with an exciting new production in the pipeline.

The society has just acquired the licence for the teen version of SIX, the Musical - a production they are quite rightly feeling royally chuffed about.

SIX is a musical comedy in the style of a pop concert. Its music, book, and lyrics were written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss.[1] It is a modern retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII, presented in the form of a singing competition. In the show, the wives (Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr)[2] take turns telling their story to determine who suffered the most from their shared husband, but ultimately seek to reclaim their individual identities and rewrite their stories.

The Players, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, produces a range of shows, from large-scale pantomimes and variety shows to studio pieces and musicals.

And on Wednesday evening (March 12) they will be holding a season launch which is a drop in event for all ages running from 7pm-9pm at the Ice Factory on Somerset Place.

The directors of this season’s plays will be there to discuss what shows are planned and answer any questions.

The Players aren’t just looking for people to tread the boards as there are plenty of opportunities including sewing for the wardrobe department, supporting junior members, helping with tech or building scenery. ‘There really is something for everyone,’ a Teignmouth Players spokesperson said.

The society has lots going on at the moment with social events, workshops, productions, bingo sessions and much more so come along and find out what will be happening in the upcoming and coming season and fill your calendar.
