A LOCAL singing group are sending out an invitation to those with a voice to join them for a choral get-together next month.

The Shaldon Singers are looking for local singers to join them for an enjoyable and memorable day of music-making on Saturday, April 5, with a come and sing choral workshop on Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

Taking place in St Peter’s Church in Shaldon the day offers an opportunity to sing with celebrity conductor Brian Kay, who is the musical director for the day. Piano accompaniment for the day will be provided by Peter Adcock.

Brian Kay was an original member of the King’s Singers. He has performed in concerts all over the world in his singing career, and now regularly conducts thousands of amateur singers in the Really Big Chorus in the Royal Albert Hall. He has also presented numerous programmes on BBC radio and television, twice winning the Sony Radio Award as music presenter of the year.

The workshop runs from 10am to 5pm. The cost is £22, and this includes score hire.

The final session of the day (3.45pm) will consist of an informal concert performance of the music rehearsed during the day. Family and friends are invited to come and listen – and everyone is welcome, free of charge.

Light refreshments - tea, coffee, biscuits and cake – will be served in the church during breaks. The Victoria Hall, situated next to the church, will also be open for singers to use during breaks.

Tickets for the event can be booked through TicketSource. All the information, including a link to buy tickets, can be found at the websitewww.shaldonsingers.co.uk.

The Shaldon Singers is a friendly non-auditioned choir of about 60 members . They sing a wide range of classical music and give two concerts a year, in December and May, and support local charities with a retiring collection at each concert.
