Children playing in the new park in Shaldon will have somewhere to shelter from the sun after hedging and trees were planted this week.

Volunteers from the Friends of Homeyards Botanical Gardens rolled up their sleeves to add the shrubs to the new play park, which is due to open at the end of the month.

The greenery is intended to increase shelter and shade for children using the park and the plants include a living willow igloo, or ‘wigloo’ to add to the play opportunities.

The playpark will be officially opened by local artist Laura Wall on Saturday March 29. Laura has also designed an information board and a thank-you board acknowledging the major donors and grants that have contributed to the project.
