THE great and the good from Bovey Tracey Fire Station were recently mobilised  to a fire in a carvan park.

With their collegues from Exeter were attending to a large incident, the crew from Bovey were on standby duty at Danes Castle before being called to a local holiday park were reports of a fire had broken out.

Upon arrival it became clear to the team that a fire had taken hold within the kitchen area of one of the caravans.

A Breathing Apparatus (BA) team were committed to tackle the blaze, and were able to get it under control quickly to prevent any further spread or damage.

‘Thanks to the quick reactions of other residents and park staff the fire had been suppressed before our arrival’ a spokesman for Bovey Tracey Fire Station said.

Crews used small tools and a Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) to ensure that the fire had not spread.

It was then extinguished using a hose reel jet and dry powder extinguishers.

Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) was also used to clear smoke from the property.

The occupants were not in the caravan at the time and the fire was deemed to be accidental, with the cause of the fire thought to be an issue with the gas hob.
