A seaside farmers’ market will reach its tenth anniversary at the end of August and is inviting everyone to the celebrations.
Teignmouth Farmers’ Market will hand out free birthday cupcakes to shoppers in Teignmouth Triangle on Saturday August 31 to mark a decade since it first started.
Deputy Mayor Chloe Myers will lead a rousing round of ‘Happy Birthday’ at 11am before handing out the cakes, which have been made by regular stall holder Pat-a-Cake, as well as certified gluten-free cakes from Tilley’s Gluten-Free.
Traditionally, a tenth anniversary sees the exchanging of gifts made from tin or aluminium, symbolising durability and flexibility. This is ‘something all farmers are adept at, particularly considering the growing conditions and weather’, said Teignmouth Farmers’ Market chair David Lamboll. ‘Here’s to another ten years of supporting delicious local foods, the environment,’ he added.
Teignmouth Farmers’ Market takes place between 10am and 2pm every last Saturday of the month. All produce comes from within 30 miles of Teignmouth and is sold by the people that produce it.
Regular stallholders include: Black Rabbit Farm (cider and charcoal); Bread of Devon (breads); Curworthy Cheese (cheese, clotted cream and yogurts); Dartmoor Chilli Farm (everything chilli); Huxbear Vineyard (boutique wine and beer); Pat-a-Cakes (cakes and traybakes); Red Earth Kitchen (pasties and pastries); Shillingford Organics (organic vegetables and fruit); Shute Fruit and Produce (fruit, vegetable, flowers and preserves); Springfield Nursery (garden plants and fruit); Stanbury Game Dealers (game meats and pies); Tip Top Tempeh (homemade tempeh); Tilleys Gluten Free (gluten free bakery); Veggie Deli (vegetarian and vegan ready meals).
