On Saturday 22nd June at 7:30pm, Buckfast Abbey in South Devon will open its series of 2024 evening organ recitals, hosting the world-famous Organist and Director of Music at Saint Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue, New York, Jeremy Filsell, for a splendid evening recital.

Jeremy Filsell. — Organist
(Jeremy Filsell. — Organist)

Filsell has forged a unique career as a virtuoso performer both as a pianist and organist. He has performed in Russia, Scandinavia, New Zealand, Australia and throughout the USA and UK. He is a particular exponent of Marcel Dupré, gaining a PhD researching aesthetic issues in his music, and subsequently recording his complete organ works. Filsell will perform Dupré’s colourful and imaginative Three Preludes and Fugues, along with excerpts from Kenneth Leighton’s Missa de Gloria and the Concerto for Solo Organ by the visionary American composer Calvin Hampton.

A centre of culture and arts in the South West of England, Buckfast Abbey is recognised as both a place of worship and a centre of musical excellence. The Abbey installed a new organ by the Italian builder, Fratelli Ruffatti, in 2018, and hosts an annual series of organ recitals. It is the perfect venue to host this celebrated organist for his unique recital on 22nd June.
