A unique and inspiring performance takes place at Combeinteignhead Village Hall next Tuesday as part of the From Devon With Love festival.
Presented by Isobel Jeffery and Four of Swords Theatre, The Magical Screentest of Isobel Jeffery is a delightfully fun and quirky comedy, offering a disarmingly honest self-portrait of aspiring actor Isobel Jeffery. This show tells the heroic and poignant tale of Isobel’s journey to overcome learning disabilities and health challenges, all while chasing her dream of becoming an actor.
The story unfolds as an entertaining and lively conversation between Isobel and the larger-than-life, cartoonish film producer, Mr Hollywood Big Bucks, played by the hilarious Phil Kingslan John from Four of Swords.
Their interview is interspersed with demonstrations of the tactics Isobel has developed to learn scripts, a mind-bending quiz on world mythology, and short films featuring skits and sketches — all created from the wonderfully wacky imagination of Isobel.
Organised by the Devon-based arts charity Villages in Action, the festival celebrates the region’s most exciting performers, offering audiences the chance to experience fresh, work-in-progress performances.
The From Devon With Love festival’s scratch, work-in-progress performances are a crucial part of the creative process, allowing artists to test their ideas in a live setting and gauge audience's reaction. The feedback gathered from audiences at these performances often informs the next stages of development, helping to shape the final version of the work.
The performance begins at 7pm on Tuesday, September 17, and tickets are available through the website: villagesinaction.co.uk
