A secure dog walking field will open in Ipplepen on Monday (March 17).

Ipplepen Dog Park is a fully enclosed two-acre field where dog owners will be able to let their canine companions run free and safely play outside.

The site, which will include some doggy play equipment, is ideal for pooches to run around in a secure environment. It is also ideal for anyone who might be nervous to let their dogs off leads due to having poor recall or behavioural issues and as a result need to be exercised on their own.

Located just off Moor Lane, Ipplepen Dog Park will only be available for exclusive hire and users will need to pre-book an hourly or half-hourly slot.

When the proposals for the field were submitted to Teignbridge last summer they were welcomed by local dog owners. Ipplepen Dog Park owners, Richard and Emily, and their dogs, Bruce and Brie, said in a statement submitted with their planning application: ‘From looking at other secure dog walking fields, these are well-supported with extremely high booking percentages and it is anticipated that support for this proposed facility will also be high due to there being nothing else like this in the local vicinity.’

The paddock, which is enclosed by a 1.8 metre tight mesh wire fence, will run as a secure, self-service facility accessed via a key-code. The site will be monitored by CCTV and regular maintenance and checks will ensure the park remains clean, safe and secure.

Dog owners will be asked to clean up any mess created by their hounds and waste bins are located throughout the park.
