A glamorous night of Diva Fever at the Alice Cross Centre on Saturday (April 12) raised over £1,000 to help the community centre continue offering its services.

Powerful ballads, sequins and glitter combined to create an unforgettable evening of musical entertainment.

Performers featured Alice Cross Centre general manager Peta Howell, Jenny Green and Ilana Jacobs. And they paid homage to some of music’s greatest female icons, including Barbara Streisand, Marilyn Monroe, Shirley Bassey, Doris Day, Celine Dion and Tina Turner.

‘A highlight of the evening came when special guest Ilana Jacobs graced the stage, delivering a breath-taking performance of ‘Quando me’n vo’ from Puccini’s ‘La Boheme’’ said an Alice Cross Centre spokesperson. ‘The audience was clearly moved by her powerful operatic talent.’ The surprise continued as Jacobs was joined by Teignmouth’s own musical legend, Viv Wilson, who provided exquisite piano accompaniment for a touching rendition of ‘La Vie en Rose’.

After a second half where disco favourites kept the energy high, the show concluded with a heartwarming, group sing-along of ‘Que Sera Sera’, where performers and the audience sang together in a fitting finale to a night of musical celebration.

The sold-out event raised £1,039.70 for the Alice Cross Centre. ‘This impressive contribution demonstrates both the generosity of those in attendance and the community’s strong support for the centre,’ said Peta.

Based on the success of the evening, the Alice Cross Centre audience are likely to welcome a repeat performance of Diva Fever sooner rather than later.

No doubt, Peta, who became the Alice Cross Centre general manager earlier this year, will oblige. She is a well-known singer locally and has previously sung at the Christmas Lights switch-on and at the D-Day 80th anniversary commemoration.

Peta joined the Alice Cross staff in 2022, having volunteered with the charity for the previous seven years.
