POLICE in Ashburton have been continuing their crackdown on speeding motorists with an operation in the town this morning.
Officers have been checking on vehicles exceeding the new 20mph limit through the town.
In just 90 minutes, the operation caught eight drivers driving between 27 and 33mph today.
All were issued with fines for speeding.
Today’s speeding operation was carried out following complaints about excessive speeds and was conducted by officers from the Professional Development Unit supported the Ashburton Neighbourhood Team along Eastern Road joining the B3352 - Ashburton.
A spokesman said: ‘Please be aware that this stretch of road is now 20 mph, this came into force on November 23 and as there has been a requirement for enforcement, we will continue with random speed checks around the town.’
