SEVERAL community groups in Newton Abbot are hundreds of pounds better off thanks to the town council.

Newton Abbot Town Council were 'delighted' to award grants to several community groups based in the town.

The following recipients were as follows:

► Forde Park Community Project was awarded £1,000 for the creation of a Coronation Garden with raised beds, seating and planting for volunteers, staff and the community to enjoy a quiet place.

► Devon General were awarded £500 to go toward the 'Devon General Remembered Day'

► Newton Abbot's Girl Guiding group were awarded £950 to go toward the transportation costs associated with attending the County Girl Guiding Camp.
