TWO more amazing people have been celebrated as 2024 Community Champions by Dawlish Water Rotary Club.
Joint Dawlish Carnival Presidents Jill and Geoff King received the award from club president Chris May, who praised the incredible work both have done in Dawlish
The pair moved to Devon in 2010 from Derby. Jill was a medical receptionist in her working life. She became involved in the Dawlish Carnival in 2016 as a volunteer and is now joint Carnival President with Geoff and is also an avid volunteer with Assist Teignbridge.
Jill has been a stalwart and Trustee of the Friends of Dawlish Hospital since 2012. In her leisure time she sings in Dawlish Rockwaves.
Geoff has been Chair of the Friends of Dawlish Hospital since 2012. Without him, the hospital would not have the support it has had for projects and equipment which the NHS could not fund. He is the person who spearheaded the Dawlish MIU reopening and is now campaigning for extended hours.
As Chair of the Friends, they have organised many fund raising activities, including a regular event at Luscombe Castle. Geoff is also the Carnival Director and he helps to obtain grants as well as being involved with the logistics of the event.
Both have been volunteers for Dawlish Town Council for many events, including Remembrance Parades, the Jubilee and the Armed Forces Day Parade to name a few. Geoff and Jill were also integral to the smooth running the Covid vaccination car park team at Dawlish Hospital for the best part of a year.
