AN APPLICATION from Baker Estates to construct 57 new homes in Chudleigh Knighton has been received by Teignbridge District Council.

The new buildings are planned to be located on land next to Tollgate Farm, on Plymouth Road.

The new houses will be accompanied by associated parking areas, a drainage pond, areas of open space and other infrastructure.

The site is currently used as farmland on Tollgate Farm and sits adjacent to existing residential properties, allotments and further farmland.

The development will be a mix of one to five-bedroom houses and bungalows.

Should the development go ahead as planned, Chudleigh Knighton will increase in population by about 12%.

The initial outline application was made several years ago and was allowed at appeal in February this year, meaning that the principle of residential development at Tollgate Farm has now been established.

Within this initial application, just six objections were made, primarily citing impacts on the local environment and changing the character of the village.

However, now the initial outline application has been approved, only the details of the development are left to be established.

The developer, Baker Estates, is a Newton Abbot-based firm, with 10 sites and about 1,300 houses in the pipeline.
