Round one of the Kennick Top Rod event took place at Kennick Reservoir on Saturday, writes John Hern.
Weather on arrival was a chilly 7 degrees with light rain in the moderate NE wind, out of the wind when the sun came out it was a very pleasant 12 degrees. Thirteen anglers made the trip and Tom Hendy had coffees and bacon rolls ready for us as we registered.
Best tactics of the day proved to be floating / Intermediate lines with weighted black and green nymphs and orange blobs on the droppers.
The best locations were at Lodge Bank and under the pines in the morning with the East B ank, Lawns and Forest Bay all proving very popular in the afternoon.
Eight of the anglers caught their five fish limit and all thirteen 13 anglers caught 47 fish for a bag weight of 93lbs 12.5oz with an average catch of 3.6 and average weight 1.98 lbs Best fish of the day was 2lbs 14oz caught by John Hern
Results: First - John Herm of Exeter with 5 fish at 11lbs 4oz. Second - Rob Gale of Ashburton with five fish at 10lbs 7oz. Third - Chris Bolt of Kingsteignton with five fish at 10lbs 5oz. Fourth - MMike Steer Of Bovey Tracey with five fish at 9lbs 13.5oz. Fifth - Alec Hoare of Abbotskerswell with 5 five fish at 9lbs 11.5oz. Sixth Darren Penfold of Liverton with five fish at 9LBS 8.5oz.
The next event takes place at Hawkridge Bank on April 14.
