THE first round of the South West Cyclocross took place at Cricket St Thomas amidst stormy weather predictions.
Despite the challenging conditions, 18 Mid-Devon riders were prepared to tackle the demanding course. The day kicked off with the younger riders showcasing their skills and determination.
Amongst the action was Under 10 George Bleloch, coming third in his first-ever cyclocross race.
Under 12 Fredrik Simcock had many mechanical issues but showed good strength in completing the race, coming 9th, whilst Henry HATTON was close behind in 11th.
Under 14th James Allen came 2nd, after fighting with the course tape! There were very strong rides for his teammates as well, as first years in a 2-year age group, Benjamin Simcock was 6th, Oliver Gray in 8th, Thomas Bleloch in 9th and Rudi Bruseke in 10th.
Matthew Holmes also had a great ride in the Under 16 category, placing in third ahead of Meryn Kitching in fourth, Samuel Gray in fifth whilst Bayley Woodger did not finish.
Junior Lara Dix took a good win on a course that works to her strengths.
Finally, V40 Emily Simcock came 3rd in a good strong race getting on the podium, V50 Nicky Quant also came 3rd in her respective race in a strong field with Jackie Shute coming 5th and then V50m, there were fifth and 17th-placed finishes for James Bovey and Simon Gray respectively.
