TEIGNMOUTH RFC women were the first to show off the new 150th-anniversary kit under the lights with a 12-a-side fixture.

Withycombe were the visitors on Friday, September 6 and the home side got off to a winning start.

Despite some great Teigns’ tackling, Withy took an early lead thanks to a converted try.

A penalty near the try-line allowed them to extend their advantage with another seven points and before long, it was 19-0 to Withycombe.

The fightback began with Squires running down the wing to get Teignmouth on the board. Goddard followed her over the white line and although this second try was unconverted, the 19-point buffer was now at just seven.

That duo were hugely influential once again and Squires scored a second and a third, sending Teigns ahead at 22-19.

It was time for Bowery to get in on the act next and whilst Withy did find another try themselves, the last laugh came courtesy of Squires’ fourth, with the game ending 41-24.

Roxanne Wilson and Shawna Ball were named as the Players of the Match for the backs and the forwards respectively.

It was the turn of the men’s second XV the following day who hosted Topsham and made it a second win of the weekend for Teignmouth.

Topsham were reduced to 14 men following a high tackle and Teigns were able to pounce on this yellow card with centre, Scott scoring an unconverted try.

The away team hit back and took the lead at 7-5, but that was where the points stopped for them on the day.

Number eight Aldworth and prop Wright added five points apiece with Carr converting the first try, taking the score to 17-7 and that was how it ended.

Fly-half Will Burton was named as the Player of the Match for the winning side.
