SEVERAL crews from Teign Rowing Club took part in Salcombe’s annual gig regatta.
There were 15 clubs competing – Teign had three ladies’ crews and several men’s crews in action, including vets and supervets.
The racing got off to a good start with Teign Men’s B crew finishing sixth.
Teign Ladies’ B crew of Jacky Forte, Catherine Lovell, Jane Avery, Sarah Free, Catriona Miller and Rachel Holgate, coxed by Clive Luxton, rowed strongly to win their race, finishing ahead of Cattewater and Salcombe; Teign Men B?finished sixth in their race.
Next up was the Ladies’ C crew, who finished second to Cotehele Quay.
Teign Men’s C crew finished first in their race, but had to declare they had B rowers in their boat so were placed last.
The Men’s A crew rowed well for second place, as did the Ladies’ A crew.
Next up was the vets’ races, in which the men again rowed really well finishing in third and fourth places – giving them third place, with the supervets’ crew of Dave Johnson, Wally Walton, Simon Hounsell, Jon Haytread, Mike Izzard and Simon Hallworth coxed by Ruth Mangham, winning their category.
Teign Ladies’ vets had a good race, finishing runners-up to the host team.
Overall Teign finished third.
This weekend the club are off to Saltash, where Caradon Gig Club host their regatta.
